For our City

Ka ora te whenua, ka ora te tangata:

when the land is well, the people are well.

Our city’s infrastructure is what makes our city tick and supports us living healthy and active lives. It’s important that it’s fit for purpose, well maintained and resilient, so that we can rely on it being there when we need it.

However, our pipes and roads are in poor condition both from the earthquakes and lack of focus, leading to disruption and increased costs. We can plan carefully and invest in renewing our assets efficiently to get the best outcomes for residents

    • Increasing assessments and renewals of our pipes to reduce breaks and lower leakage rates from the current 27%.

    • Providing better access to chlorine free water across the city.

    • Improving our stormwater networks to lower flooding impacts on residents.

    • Providing safe, accessible and reliable transport choices for all residents.

    • Working with our partners to make progress on light rail.

    • Making sure we maintain our roads, footpaths and cycleways to an appropriate standard and make the most efficient use of it.

    • Continued ownership of our strategic assets to ensure our companies are resilient, remain relevant and decisions are made in the best interests of the city.

    • Continuing to grow our city’s community housing.
